A new study from the American Cancer Society, published online in the American Journal of Epidemiology, found an inverse relationship between caffeinated coffee intake and oral/pharyngeal cancer mortality.

People who drank more than four cups of caffeinated coffee per day were about half as likely to die from these cancers than people who didn’t drink caffeinated coffee.

The study, which lasted more than 25 years, followed nearly 1 million adults who were cancer free when the research began.  The study found that the more cups of caffeinated coffee a person drank each day, the lower the risk of death from these cancers.  This result applied to both men and women.

Reduce risk of oral cancer: Drink coffee every day

The confirmation of this protective effect of caffeine is an important finding. “Although it is less common in the United States, oral/pharyngeal cancer is among the ten most common cancers in the world,” said lead author Dr. Janet Hildebrand.  “Our finding strengthens the evidence of a protective effect of caffeinated coffee in the etiology and/or progression of cancers of the mouth and pharynx.”
This new study adds to the abundance of therapeutic benefits that peer-reviewed studies have proven are delivered by caffeine.  These benefits include:

A decreased risk of stroke, high blood pressure, heart attacks, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, senile dementia, clinical depression, Parkinson’s disease, cirrhosis of the liver, gallstones, brain cancer, head and neck cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer, liver cancer, skin cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer, the pulmonary complications of smoking, the development of lung cancer and also reduces inflammation, combats multiple sclerosis, combats migraine headaches, combats dry-eye syndrome, and is the most powerful non-prescription analgesic available.

In addition to therapeutic benefits, caffeine also offers an enormous variety of health maintenance and physical development benefits that improve the quality of and lengthen our lives:

For example, caffeine enables us to work out harder and longer and also helps to improve our moods and helps us relax.  Caffeine is also an extremely strong anti-oxidant, neutralizing free radicals and helping to prevent muscle soreness and possibly forestall aging.  In older people, caffeine counteracts the muscle weakness that often results in injurious falls.   In addition, caffeine is a kind of “brain tonic” that can protect our brains from certain types of degeneration and can improve our long-term memory and power of reasoning.

Caffeine is the closest thing to a panacea in the entire pharmacopeia!
